2019 Annual Report
In 2019, Free Speech Coalition grew as an organization, expanding both our reach and our services. The generous support of our members has allowed us to tackle new challenges to not only defend our industry, but to help it thrive. Together, we spoke truth to power, built powerful new alliances, and improved our overall influence in national and international debates. We engineered new programs for our members, fought legislative and regulatory battles, and stood up for the rights of adult consumers, workers and businesses.
Here are some highlights over the past year:
Launch of the FSC INSPIRE website
Our Industry Newcomer Support Program (INSPIRE) connects newcomers to the industry with advice and resources from established performers — helping protect performers and make the industry safer and more reputable.
Expanding FSC PASS Access
FSC PASS added over 1000 new draw centers in the US and Canada to PASS this year, as Adult Industry Testing (AIT) and Talent Health Labs (THL) joined our network. This is the most dramatic expansion of FSC PASS in our history, and addresses the expanding nature of production.
Increasing Board Voices
Recognizing the evolving industry landscape, the FSC Board of Directors voted to expand the board to include more voices from the pleasure product and clip communities — Steve Craig (Nalpac) and Bella French (Manyvids) joined the Board this Fall.
Innovative Industry Partnerships
We helped support and amplify the work of those who are innovating in our industry — projects like Lance Hart’s Performer Self-Defense Workshops, Trenton Ducati’s PreP Navigator pilot program, Kink.com’s Consent Documents, APAC’s Anti-Racism Workshop, and Pineapple Support’s mental health initiatives.
(Another) 2257 Battle
After last year’s trial court victory striking down the remaining pieces of 2257 legislation, both the US government and our lawyers appealed the decision to the Third Circuit. The briefing is completed and we await with great optimism the ruling of the Third Circuit, given the Court of Appeals earlier rulings. If we win, the government is likely to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Raising Your Voice
Whether fighting porn taxes, debunking porn addiction, raising concerns about censorship,or defending sex workers, FSC was there influencing the debate — in Huffington Post, Rolling Stone, VICE, Wired, Forbes, New York Post, Out, and hundreds of other publications.
New Executive Director
As many of you know, we hired a new Executive Director this fall. Michelle L. LeBlanc, who is new to the industry, joined the FSC in October, bringing 20 years of business, technology, and marketing experience, along with powerful new ideas for growing and strengthening this vital organization.
